Governor Palin Is Right: Secure the Border First, We’ll Deal With The Rest Later

If you watch “The Factor” on a regular basis you’ll no doubt know that Mr. O’Reilly prides himself on being fair and balanced. O’Reilly regularly proclaims that when he interviews Governor Palin he’ll be fair without asking her gotcha questions. Well, on Friday night O’Reilly broke his own rule.

Governor Palin made the point that when it comes to immigration the first thing that needs to be done is “secure the border”. O’Reilly tried to press the Governor on what she would do with the 12 Million illegal immigrants who are already within the USA border after the border is secured.

Had O’Reilly stopped interrupting her and allowed her to answer his question we would actually have heard what she had to say. Twice the Governor begun explaining her position and O’Reilly rudely interrupted her. The first time she said:

“First let me go in to the importance of securing the border, if we start talking about amnesty…”

INTERRUPTION

Then again when she said

“Bill, it makes me uncomfortable that we are going down that path, when…”

INTERRUPTION

Governor Palin’s position is simple. “SECURE THE BORDER” first, then we’ll deal with the illegal immigrants already within the border. Trying to figure out what to do with those illegal immigrants prior to securing the border is a gotcha question because it is like trying to figure out how to pay off your credit card debt while out of a job and living off your credit card.

Immigration is a very complicated issue and many presidents have tried to resolve it, so far everyone has failed. But, even if Governor Palin has a plan to deal with the 12 million illegals, (and from what I saw, from the way she was biting her lips, she does have something up her sleeve) it would be ridiculous to publicize it prior to the border being secured. If people on the other side of the border learn of her plan prior to the border being secured, they’ll jump right over the fence to take advantage of what a President Palin intends to do with illegal immigrants.

As for Bill’s argument that:

“We can’t starve them to death and if they can’t work, if they don’t have a green card to work, um, they are going to be hosed, I mean they got to pay rent, they got to buy groceries, this, that and the other”.

Well Bill, here’s an idea, how about we let the illegal immigrants walk into Wall Mart pick some food of the shelf and walk out without paying? Hey they’re starving. No of course not, it’s a silly idea, it’s wrong and it’s illegal. In case people missed it, the definition of an illegal immigrant is that they are here “ILLEGALLY” against the law, not permitted. When someone breaks they law they don’t get to benefit from it and they need to be dealt with accordingly. And, What about the millions of Americans who are starving and can’t make their rent? Governor Palin has it exactly right.

“American citizens who are here lawfully they need to be ones with the first shot at getting those jobs”

Yes, America is a compassionate society, but just like we don’t allow people to steal food, we can’t allow people to break the law just because they are starving and don’t have a nice place to live. Last time I checked, that was illegal just like, er, crossing the border illegally. If I commit a crime, shouldn’t I expect to get “hosed”?

In the follow up segment Dana Perino argued that the Governor was being unspecific when she said she’ll send “whatever it takes”. Ms Perino kind of flipped flopped on that one. She started out by saying that Governor Palin isn’t the president and doesn’t need specifics. Ms. Perino is quite correct on that point but I’ll take it further. Because governor Palin isn’t the president yet, she doesn’t KNOW the exact number required. Unlike Obama, she doesn’t get daily briefings and doesn’t have the exact data. How can you expect someone without access to classified data to be able to give specifics? When Governor Palin is president and has the appropriate information, she’ll be able to articulate exactly how many “whatever it takes” is. Perino did admit that “no one really knows” and she may have a point on that with regard to Obama, who despite all the information at his disposal, still doesn’t have a clue what to do.

Let’s get Governor Palin into the Oval office, she’ll secure the border first, then she’ll deal with the other parts of the problem, those that no other president has yet to figure out.

And to Bill O’Reilly: Can you PLEASE let Governor Palin finish her sentences so you actually get the ANSWER to your questions. You know, you may learn something in the process and your follow up analysts will actually have something to analyze.
